M Sotillo Artist Unreached Horizons Signature
Maurice Utrillo produced thousands of oil paintings, mainly of street scenes in the Montmartre district of Paris. He is best known for his White Period (1909–14), during which he used white zinc, sometimes mixed with plaster, to convey the aging walls.

Maurice Utrillo (1883-1955) born Maurice Valadon, usually signed his paintings in a prominent fashion. Utrillo often included the initial 'V' for Valadon after Utrillo: 'Maurice Utrillo V.' In many cases Utrillo included the year and sometimes even the month.
Utrillo did sometimes use the shorter form 'M. Utrillo' with no date, though the former example is the most common.
Signature is rarely sufficient for authenticating a painting, signatures must be checked, but results must be carefully placed in the correct context. A signature is only one element, and not a determining one, in the process of authentication.
